Interview with “Dirty Dave” Moreno * DM a.k.a "the sexiest fighter in 145 division" in Honolulu, Hawaii

Interview by: Saev

Dirty Dave Moreno

MMA Hawaii: Dirty Dave, can you tell us a little about yourself? (A little about your personal life and maybe what inspired you to become a fighter.)

DM: Well I’m 28 yrs old and I’m a Big island banger repping the Nasty North aka Kohala the birth place of the legendary King Kamehameha. My first contact with jiu-jitsu was when I was an Airborne Ranger in the 2nd Ranger battalion in Ft. Lewis, Wa. I learned the basics and pretty much learned everything else on my own by reading books and magazines. I then formed my own style called Mad Mongoose fighting systems. It’s a personal blend of jiu-jitsu, wrestling, boxing, kickboxing and just being plain mean.

MMA Hawaii: Where are you currently training and what is your training schedule like?

DM: I now train in Hilo at BJ PENN’s MMA academy and I train 5 days a week for about 2hrs a day after work. I build houses full time and sometimes that can be exhausting trying to balance training, work and personal time. But I love what I do and feel the end result will be well worth the initial sacrifices.

MMA Hawaii: What was the most exciting fight of your career?

DM: I’ll have to say my first kickboxing match against Aj Veriato, he’s a tuff sob. I dropped him twice and he still came back for more, it was the sloppiest display of kickboxing ever witnessed in the great state of HI but we had the whole civic center in Hilo up on their feet, he was a great opponent and we lit it up that night. Matter of fact you can see part of it on my account on Myspace I have two highlights up in my video section, check em' out and see the evolution of Dirty Dave aka Da Mad Mongoose

Dirty Dave Moreno vs David Padilla at X1 World Events

MMA Hawaii: If you could choose anyone in the world to be your next opponent, who would you choose and why?

DM: Eddie Yagin cuz he has the belt and he would be true test of where my skill level is at. He is a bad mofo and I guarantee it would be a scrap for the history books because both of us come to fight and we back down to nobody.

MMA Hawaii: Is there anything you would like to say to the fight fans in Hawaii?

DM: Thanks for the love and the hate cuz what's a playa without a hater? I promise to fight my heart out every time I step into the cage or ring win or lose the fans will get their money’s worth of excitement. I don’t care if I have a losing record just as long as I put on a good show I’d rather lose spectacularly than win boringly cuz I come to scrap and that’s that.

Also I wanna give a big mahalo to my first kickboxing coach Hawke Walleman for introducing me to the standup game and all the boys at BJ’s gym. Also all my sponsors: Gritty Fifty Recordings for hooking up my intro song they are about to show the 808 the next level of island hip hop, you can listen to them on Myspace. Forty Thieves Clothing these dudes have the illest fight wear in the game right now and you can pick it up at Fighter’s Corner or at fortythievesclothing.com oh yeah and MMAHAWAII for showing me some love that’s all for now but stay tuned till the next episode.
