MMAHawaii (Carrie): First off Pat it's great to have you.
PC: Howz it, (Shoots shaka sign) =/ Mahalo plenti for having me..
MMAHawaii: How did you originally get into MMA?
PC: I started out at Brazilian Freestyle Jiu Jitsu in Wailuku in 98 studying under Romolo Barros. I used to compete in BJJ cause Maui didnt have a big MMA scene then. I kinda sucked with the gi on, so we started doing more no gi things and next thing ya know I'm in a MMA fight...that was it I was hooked. Here I am 7 fights later
MMAHawaii: What is your favorite fighting style?
PC: I like the whole MMA game no one real favorite style. I enjoy standing and banging, going for submissions, clinches, ground and pound, what eva it takes. Im training at Maui Jiu Jitsu right now which is real fun, its a family like atmosphere. Im really enjoying that at the moment
MMAHawaii: How do you prepare for a fight?
PC: 2-3 times a week i drive to upcountry and train with Louis Herdia at Maui Jiu Jitsu. The rest of the time we spar in Hana; a lot of different standing positions , take downs take down defenses, clinches, cage work. Just try to be as free flowing as possible. I ride bike 10-15 miles 3 times a week and also do a bunch of bag circuits and more sparing and more sparring...
MMAHawaii: Name two people in the fight industry that inspire you
PC: All the people who step in the cage and take part in MMA inspire me.. from the fan to the fighter to the coach to the sponsors to the promoters... it all inspiring for me
MMAHawaii: Do you have any pre fight rituals?
PC: Ill go down to Koki Beach and get some red sand and put it in a ziploc I take where ever i go when I fight so I'm always repping Maui and my hometown, it sorta my comfort blanket!
MMAHawaii: When and where is your next fight?
PC: I just got called to fight in Kona on friday night, Im crossing my fingers that works out! If it happens I'll be replacing a fighter that pulled out and facing off with Tyler Kahikolo. Other then that I'm looking at June 14 for sure with HXC (Bites nails and starts getting nervous thats like for ever away) I'm also talking with Full Force Promoters for a may fight too.. I'm hoping to get in the HFC on March 29th. I was training for Rumble on March 28th but it was canceled.
