Rob's Good Time Grill on Kaua'i hosted the weigh ins for Kaua'i Knockout Championship's DEFEND KAUAI. Fighters from both Kaua'i and outer islands ranging from 135 lbs to 185 lbs took to the scale and faced off with their opponents for tomorrow night's showdown.
Kevin "Da Monsoon" Soong, fighting out of Bj Penn Academy in Hilo, will be fighting for the first time at home. Soong returns to Kaua'i after moving to the Big Island where he trains with Boss MMA and BJ Penn Training/Fitness. Kevin currently holds two belts; Just Scrap and X-1 155lb Amateur Champion. Soong will be facing Kyle Foyle, who has recently trained Muay Thai in Thailand, and also has impressive BJJ. Foyle is a lifeguard on the North shore of Oahu, so his cardio and ability to go the distance won't be second guessed. They are both hammas when it comes to the cage so you can expect fireworks from these two.
Also tipping the scales was Kauai's own Justyn "HULK" Perreira and Joseph Enaena in a 160lb MMA matchup. Dubbed the "HULK" for smashing his opponents (Humble Until Loses Kontrol), Perreira won his last fight in just 19 seconds with a right hand to his opponents chin. All smiles before and after the fight, Perreira gives thanks to the one and only Jesus Christ. His opponent, Joseph Enaena, is fighting out of Legacy Combat in Waianae, Oahu. Having fought many boxing and kickboxing matches, Enaena is no stranger to letting his hands go.
Another intriguing match up is a 125 lb MMA bout featuring Kauai's Domenick Ansagay and Joey Balai. Domenick is is skilled on the ground as well as standing up, as he fought in many boxing and kickboxing bouts and made the transition into bjj and eventually MMA. Joey Balai, fighting out of Team Extreme in Makaha, looks to make his debut in Kaua'i Knockout Championship. He previously was the 125lb champion in Destiny MMA. Balai has fought in shows on Oahu including Destiny MMA and X-1, held , and looks to show his skill in tomorrow nights match up. The winner of this fight will be fighting in next March for the 125 lb MMA belt.
MORTAL COMBAT made waves this past May with 5 first round knockouts, 1 submission in the first minute, a professional surfer making his successful MMA debut, and both Kaua'i boys taking home the belt. Fans can only anticipate what will happen next.
