lets face it hawaii has some of the best talent out there. Our greatest strengths is probally are biggest weakness. because hawaii fighters are known for taking fights on impulse and on short notice (even when not properly trained conditioning wise), we are known for our heart, power, toughness and mentality to keep fighting. the reason i think its one of our weaknessess is cuz promoters see that and exploit it. at the end of the day this is what matters to a promoter making money and selling tickets with the very least amount of money going back to the fighter. ive been training for 8 years and i know all the promoters secrets they come down to your school after your done warming up and getting some adrenaline going. they know your in the "fight mode" and they come up to you and ask you are you ready? do you want a fight? this is critical because i know every hawaiian will say yes 90% of the time. but think about it if you agree you are literally just saying yes i'll fight for free. thru my experience i have seen my friends take a amateur fight for free and he took it lightly and didnt train hard. he ended up never being able to train again due to a broken neck from a guilliotene turned into a DDT like WWE style. how sad is that? i love mma to death but the promoters in hawaii just dont care about a fighter.. they dont even offer some basic health insurance. i have fought in the mainland and over here. when i fought in the mainland i was treated like how every fighter should be treated i think. i was interviewed numerous times by the press before and post fight. i got free gloves, free shirts, extra health insurance if i needed it and they even gave me 4 extra tickets for family and friends even thou i was on the mainland and didnt really know anybody they told me just to sell the tickets to anyone to make some extra cash. one of the best things after i won my fight they interviewed me in the ring and that meant alot to me.
i know that promoters in hawaii never offer insurance to a fighter (even though i know alot of fighters fight with no insurance) and they never offer tickets for family and friends. and most of all the money you make from winning is hardly enough to pay your gym fees, new fight shorts, gloves, and a couple beers after the fight. i just hope that writing this opens someones eyes a little bit to the world of mma on this small rock
