well i have fought in both cage and ring and i think that if you are a standup fighter you will benefit more in a ring there are all sorts of ways to defend the takedown.
i was watching my last fight and i had a perfect double leg takedown on him and i was about to take his back, but what does he do? he ended up using my momentum to backstep thru the ropes and lands outside of the ring.. the referee then tells me the takedown was completed outside of the ropes.. so we have to start standing up which is fucking b.s this would never happen in a cage.

look at how robbie lawler used the ropes to escape nikos flying scissors takedown to a leglock. lawler is a pro and it looks like he practices illegally using the ropes all the time. he even did it against mayhem when mayhem halfguard leglocked him. the ring just doesnt make it a realistic MMA Fight when fighters train to use the ropes as a weapon. i know that Pride has atleast 5 guys outside the ring and there job is simply just to make sure no one is illegally using the ropes. which is a good idea but like i said when u are a Pro like Lawler all you need is that one second of grabbing the rope to get all the leverage you need to Rip Out of Anything!
