Brent Schermerhorn is a fighter that many people in the Hawaii MMA community will recognize immediately. He trains at Chris Leben's Fight School and brings not only enthusiasm to the events in which he participates, but also a distinct voice in the corner of his teammates who compete as well.
Schermerhorn has been in Hawaii for a while, fighting, learning, and growing. And now that his time here is over, we look back on his career here as a fighter, and a valued member of our Hawaii MMA family. Brent got into the sport in what some may call the old Mecca of MMA, Japan. His early training partner was even one, Takeya Mizugaki of WEC and UFC fame. Brent hopes to reunite with him when he returns to Japan. Now, training with Chris Leben, I'm sure his resume is well above that of many he will come across on his travels.
Brent recently made his ProElite debut with a KO victory in the first round, and the crowd errupted when he did so. Brent is scheduled to fight Kaleo Gambill at the next ProElite event.
He is one of the biggest fans of the Hawaii fight scene, and honored to have been a part of it. He even hopes to make Hawaii his home yet again someday.
Find out more about Brent's journey through MMA. His fight life, his love for Hawaii, and his goals for the future, in an upcoming issue of MMA Hawaii Magazine.
