Kendall Grove is making his second ProElite appearance against widely known Japanese fan favorite, Ikuhisa "Minowaman" Minowa at the Neil Blaisdell Center on January 21. This will be his second fight back in Hawaii since his stint in the UFC after winning The Ultimate Fighter.Grove takes this fight just as serious, if not more serious, than any of his other fights. He finds comfort in his new attitude towards fighting, and believes that it holds the key to victory on fight night.
"Fighting is one thing that only I control. Nobody else can make my decisions for me when I'm in there. I have to be a little more selfish when dealing with fights but it's paying off in my training and in my fighting. In the end I have to do it for myself, because I love to do it, not because I am paid to do it. It's not about money or fame, it's about the love of fighting."
Kendall is known for his ability to throw caution to the wind at times, even if it doesn't work out in his favor. But he attributes this to his attitude as a fighter. He is, after all as every fighter, looking for the win, but putting up a FIGHT is most important to him.
" Don't get me wrong, winning is the goal. But not if it is going to take away from the fight. I always have to look for the finish. I don't want to just compete. I want to FIGHT."
His opponent is known for his lack of fear. Minowaman will fight nearly anybody, anywhere, anytime. This is a quality that Grove respects, and a quality that he thinks will match up well with him as an opponent to make for the best fight for the fans.
"Minowaman is known for fighting anybody. He doesn't care who you are or how big you are or if you're the best in the world. He fights no matter what. That's something that I can respect. That's something that, you know, will make this fight exciting. It's part of the reason why the Japanese fans love him so much."
Coming off of a huge win over Joe "Diesel" Riggs in his ProElite debut, Grove feels more momentum than ever. As many know, Riggs gave Kendall his first career loss, in front of his home state fans no less.
"Yeah the Riggs fight was huge for me. Maybe that is the monkey that has been on my back through my whole career and finishing him like I did really motivated me. Gave me something I was missing, you know. I feel stronger than ever. I've been training hard and doing everything right and that's going to show in my fight with Minowa."
As we look forward to this second ProElite event in Hawaii, there should be no doubt to the Hawaii fans that Kendall Grove is going to bring action and excitement... No matter the cost.
