Destiny: Cage Heat is doing something on Friday night that they have yet to do to this point. For the first time in the history of the promotion, a female Championship belt will be awarded. One of the competitors for this inaugural title is Lauren Barefoot, an established martial artist from the state of Nebraska who is on a 4 fight run. The other, Hawaii's own Kailin Curran, who is mounting quite the career run herself here on the islands.
Though it is easy to feel that having home field advantage would lend steam to Kailin Curran's train, she remains focused on the fact that her opponent is prepared and just as ready for battle as herself.
" It might make her feel a little more uncomfortable, but it could also light her fire. I'm really not taking her lightly at all." - Kailin Curran
Curran is however excited at the fact that she feels the unified support of all the Hawaii MMA fans. As always, representing Hawaii and feeling the love in return is a huge motivating factor. Especially in hopes a winning a Championship belt against a mainland challenger.
" It feels different to be fighting somebody from the mainland. I'm glad that I get this opportunity. I have watched some of her fights and she is going to put up a great fight. It's an honor to fight her for this belt. And to win it would mean a lot to me."
With two explosive fighters, such as these ladies, stepping into the cage on Friday, there are bound to be fireworks on display. There is a belt on the line, and two hungry, capable, battle tested MMA fighters who are ready to do anything in their power to win the strap. There will be hell till the final bell.
Be sure to check out Destiny: Cage Heat at the Waipahu Filcom on Friday, March 9.
