On May 26th, Toughman Hawaii Presents: King Of The Ring. In this hard hitting night of kickboxing fights, the best of the best of Hawaii's kickboxing community will clash in the ring for bragging rights on the islands. In one of the main card fights, up and coming fighter, Dylan Rush will take on the veteran of the game, Deutsch Pu'u.
For Deutsch, this is a homecoming. Though he grew up in American Samoa, Hawaii is now his home. And it has always been his fighting home. Both his kickboxing and MMA career were started here on the islands. Pu'u has a very strong feeling and connection here, and that's why he holds this first fight back in Hawaii with such high regard.
For Dylan, this is just another chance to fight in front of his favorite fans. He has found that no matter the fight and no matter the situation, Hawaii fans always give it all they've got. As a fighter who does the same, you can see why he relates so well. His recent travels have taken him across the world to train and experience new things, but fighting right back here at home is where he finds himself suited best.
"I have been back in Hawaii and living in Waipahu for about a year now. My management has been working to get me on local cards since, the problem has been getting Heavy or Super-heavyweights to fight me. Hawaii is where I started my pro career in both MMA and Kickboxing. So as far as my career is concerned I consider myself a Hawaii based Samoan fighter! I love Hawaii I have a lot of Aiga here! Other fighters call them fans, I call them AIGA! Or as we say in Hawaii OHANA! It is always an Honor to fight in front of my Aiga!" - Deutsch Pu'u
"I don't view any fight more important than another. They are all fights and are taken equally serious. But fighting in front of Hawaii fans has always been so good to me. It's a big deal for me to fight for the Hawaii fans again." - Dylan Rush
Dylan Rush is no one to be taken lightly. His natural athletic ability, mixed with his work ethic and ferocity make him a deadly machine in the ring. But Deutsch believes that he has done the proper prep work in order to finally topple this undefeated fighter.
For Rush, he is facing a veteran like he has never faced before. Pu'u has been in many different levels of competition from All Army Boxing, K-1 Kickboxing, and high level MMA promotions. But this means little more to Rush than just another great reason to fight him. He too has been preparing for Pu'u with great calculation.
" I know that Deutsch is a veteran. But I recently had the opportunity to train with some veterans in London like James Thompson. James has over 10 years experience in this industry so I think I am pretty well prepared for what a veteran brings to the table." - Dylan Rush
"I know that Dylan is a highly touted undefeated fighter and former collegiate wrestler. like most fighters I have done my homework on him, and have formed my game-plan in accordance to what I observed." - Deutsch Pu'u
In the end, we are sure to get one thing as fight fans. . . an amazing fight. Both of these warriors come to win. Neither will stand and stall. Both with give this fight every ounce of spirit they have in them. Both Pu'u and Rush are looking to make a statement with a win. Rush is trying to prove that he is ready for the highest levels by taking on an established fighter like Pu'u. And Pu'u is showing the local promoters that he is here and he is ready for fights with top fighters.
"I believe that I need this win to make a statement to Hawaii that I am one of the top prospects in the state I know that there have been many Heavy and super heavyweight fighters that have emerged since I left whom are now considered best from Hawaii and I believe that this win should help push the local promoters to match me against those top competitors on Island." - Deutsch Pu'u
" I have never met Deutsch, but I hear from everybody that he is a great guy and that he has done some great things. That makes this fight even better. As weird as it sounds, it's a better fight for me when I'm fighting a nice guy. I'm going to approach this one like I do any other, and it's going to be a great fight." - Dylan Rush
