Kirk Caldwell Support Martial Arts and Healthy Lifestyles E-mail
Local MMA News

Travis Hapa Browne and Kirk CaldwellGrowing up as a local boy in Waipahu, martial arts was always a part of the culture.  Many positive values were taught through participation such as discipline, respect and honor which have helped many youth today.  These values and characteristics are also beneficial in other aspects of life including the work force.

With the rise of mixed martial arts as the fastest growing sport in the United States and in Hawaii, I cannot help but be proud of the talent that comes out of our island state.  Individuals such as BJ Penn, Niko Vitale and Egan Inouye have proven that Hawaii has some the best athletes in the world.  As notable as their accomplishments in the sport have been, even more notable is their work in their local communities.  Each of them have given back in tremendous ways, using their success in the sport as a platform to mentor future generations.

I strongly support martial arts and all types of physical activities for our keiki. With the rise of obesity and diabetes I encourage teaching our younger generations the benefits of positive extracurricular activities.  As a candidate for Mayor, funding for our gyms, parks and programs for physical fitness will be one of my top priorities. Our youth will not only be healthier and stronger but will also learn valuable skills such as respect, dedication, and mental discipline.

These values and characteristics that will help them become responsible adults who will play a vital role in building strong communities for our future.  As the former Managing Director and Acting Mayor and as a husband and father, I understand the importance of strong families and communities.  Last  but certainly not least, I want to take the time to sincerely thank all the coaches, mentors and big brothers and sisters that give of themselves on a daily basis to mentor our youth.  You are the unsung heroes in our communities that give of yourself to make Hawaii a better place for all of us.

I encourage you to visit my website and support our team to ensure that the City and County of Honolulu remains one of the best cities in the world.
