Tomorrow marks a monumental event for the Jiu-Jitsy practicioners of Hawaii. From 4pm-7pm, the top ranked pound for pound player, "Cobrinha", will be putting on a seminar at Ku Lokahi Wrestling Club in Honolulu.
This absolutely once in a lifetime opportunity still has spots open for those who want to join in, so take yourself and your teammates down tomorrow. Cobrinha is excited and ready to give, as well at gain, knowledge while here in Hawaii.
"You know, it's amazing. I always come to share my techniques, and my knowledge, but I always learn something, myself. It is the best part of these seminars. I get to interact with people, and everybody has different way of doing things. I always learn something." - Cobrinha
For those who don't know who Cobrinha is, Rubens Charles "Cobrinha" is literally a come-out-of-nowhere phenom. He won his first world title as an unknown, and went on to achieve so much more from there. He is a 4-Time World Champion, a 4-Time World No-Gi Champion, 6-Time Pan American Champion, and much more. He is thought to be the savior of the Jiu-Jitsu world for the smaller weight classes.
"Winning my first world title was amazing. I mean, everybody loves the first time they win. But the whole experience has been wonderful for me. To see Jiu-Jitsu grow and to do my part. When I won, nobody knew who I was, and now I have come a long way. I learn something everywhere I go."
For this being his first time in Hawaii, Cobrinha has let MMA Hawaii in on a vital piece of information. While here, he plans on taking on the challenge of surfing his first wave. Though I warned him to prepare for a fall or two, he inspired me with a few words...
"I am the type of guy that I won't give up on anything I do. If it's Jiu-Jitsu, or surfing a wave in Hawaii. I want to give my best and succeed at whatever it is that I do in life. So I am confident. I may fall a few times, but I will succeed."
As a happy and personable guy, Cobrinha has much to share with the hungry Jiu-Jitsu community in Hawaii. The site is non-school affiliated for the seminar, and this may lead more to take part. As we all know, it's hard to find neutral ground, but in this case, for the greater knowledge of all, Alex Mendez has informed us that Mission 6, HNL Fight Shop, Hawaiian Fight Gear, and other sponsors have diligently worked to make this seminar open to all who will attend. No politics here, only Jiu-Jitsu.
On behalf of us here at MMA Hawaii, I hope that everyone has a chance to take part in this monumental seminar. And continue the growth of Jiu-Jitsu here in Hawaii for the future generations to draw from. Don't forget, the seminar is tomorrow evening from 4pm-7pm at the Ku Lokahi Wrestling Club in Honolulu.
