de one serious name for himself atop the Heavyweight division in the UFC. But he wasn’t always the go to guy for the biggest organization in the world, he had to start somewhere. He fought in many highly regarded promotions around the country. His Colorado background inevitably led to his appearance in Ring Of Fire, which is where most UFC fighters make their name known in that region. His training camps span from Colorado to Canada to New Mexico. Though few may remember, in 2006, Shane made his second professional appearance right here in Hawaii with X-1.

Those many years ago, on March 18th, Shane landed a 22 second submission victory over Casey Jackson. That was merely one of his many conquests on his way to the top. But the significance for us here in Hawaii makes all the difference in the world. So as Shane prepares to meet the toughest challenge of his career, the MMA fans here in Hawaii will have a little extra motivations to cheer a little louder for Mr. Carwin. He is forever a part of the storied history of Hawaii MMA. His long road to the UFC is one that not many have the ability to accomplish, but it should give local fighters hope that they too can make it to the highest level.
