The terms of the new Strikeforce deal are pretty crazy, but at least the promotion will be allowed to continue. It appears more and more that Dana is at the helm rather than Strikeforce prez, Scott Coker. In any case, the following are the new terms of Strikeforce.
Strikeforce will now air it's undercard fights on Showtime Extreme, and will air it's main card on the main Showtime network.
"We thought it made more sense for the consistency of the production ... that we do it all and make it one huge night of programming," said Stephen Espinoza, Showtime's new man in charge.
The Heavyweight Division will be removed from the Strikeforce roster. The Grand Prix tournament will finish. There will be one more Heavyweight fight, but that's all she wrote. Most will likely be rolled over into the UFC.
"You guys have heard me say this for years: Heavyweight divisions aren't deep enough to create this huge division," White said. "So we're going to focus on the weight divisions that are strong." Said Dana White
The women's Divisions will stay because of so much outcry from the fans for the females to have the proper attention.
Dana swears that the Strikeforce fighters will remain Strikeforce fighters, but there is obvious reason to doubt him based on the relocation of Diaz, Overeem, Henderson, Shields, and Cung Le. Kind of makes you feel bad for Gilbert Melendez who has always wanted to get a shot in the UFC and as little as a month ago, was said to be making his way to an immediate shot at Edgar's Lightweight Title.
"I can tell you this: Gilbert Melendez is pumped to stay in Strikeforce," he said. "He's one of the big stars in Strikeforce. If he wins his next fight and his next fight after that he will continue to defend his belt in Strikeforce, and he's absolutely [expletive] excited about it, just so you know." said White.
