Hawaii's Travis Browne will face Chad Griggs at UFC 145 E-mail
National MMA News

travis_browne_01Undefeated Hawaiian heavyweight slugger Travis Browne (12-0-1 MMA, 3-0-1 UFC) returns to action in March, and he'll welcome once-beaten Strikeforce vet Chad Griggs (11-1 MMA, 0-0 UFC).

UFC officials today announced the matchup, which will take place at UFC 145.

While complete details for the card have yet to be announced, UFC 145 takes place in March in Montreal. The city's Bell Centre is expected to host the pay-per-view event on March 24.

Verbal agreements are in place for Browne vs. Griggs, and bout agreements are expected to be finalized shortly.

Browne looks to notch his fourth win in the octagon. The 6-foot-7 "Hapa" owns UFC wins over Rob Broughton, Stefan Struve and James McSweeney, and the lone blemish on an otherwise perfect record is a UFC 120 draw with Cheick Kongo.

Meanwhile, Griggs has quickly developed a following fighting under the Strikeforce banner. He scored an upset win over Bobby Lashley in his promotional debut and then earned first-round stoppages of Valentijn Overeem and Gian Villante in Strikeforce heavyweight grand prix reserve bouts.

Griggs' lone career loss came in a 2007 fight with Shane Ott under the International Fight League banner.

UFC and Strikeforce officials recently announced that Strikeforce will no longer promote fights in the heavyweight division. The promotion will conclude its heavyweight grans prix in March before hosting one additional fight in the division and then ceding all of its talent to the UFC.
