After making his controversial twitter comments, Miguel Torres was cut from the UFC. The decision to release the former WEC champion was one that drew much attention positive and negative. But Dana White stood firm on his call and refused to back down.
Miguel was left with little option but to admit his mistakes. Torres released a statement via his website and apologized for his inappropriate behavior and many thought that it would be left at that. But over the past weeks, Torres took it upon himself to seek redemption. He visited all of the Rape Crisis Centers in Chicago and also donated money to each of them. Also taking rape sensitivity classes on his own accord, Torres appears to really be trying to understand why his comments offended and hurt so many people.
Before yesterdays UFC 141 Press Conference, Torres and his management team met with Dana White and explained his recent actions. The UFC President thought it admirable that the former superstar would take it upon himself to make such strides and mercifully added him back to the roster.
While speaking with the media after the presser, Dana White had this to say. .
"Since the incident has happened, he's gone and reached out to every rape crisis center in Chicago and met with the people who run it and sat down and talked to them," White said. "He's donated money to all the rape crisis centers. He has been taking rape sensitivity classes, etc., and one of the things about me is we all make mistakes. I've made mistakes, and I'm going to make more, believe me."
"Talking to Miguel today, I was in the same position he was in a couple years ago, and it's not about the mistake you make. It's about how you handle yourself after you make that mistake. There are some guys in this sport who deny, lie, say they didn't do this, didn't do that. 'There's a conspiracy going on.' He didn't do any of that. He went and handled himself like a man, and I respect that. So we got together today, he talked to me, and he's back in the UFC."
