We have all seen Anthony "Rumble" Johnson come in overweight before. Hell, we have even seen it a few times. A couple pounds here, a few pounds there, but I thought they had misread the scales at yesterdays UFC 142 weigh-in from Rio. The man who, need I remind you, just CAME UP A WEIGHT CLASS, missed the 186 lb mark by 11 lbs. As 197 was announced, many jaws hit the floor.
The immediate response from Dana White was one of a smile and a nod, and a few kind words for Johnson. But immediately after the weigh-in, the true feelings came out.
"Complete and absolute unprofessionalism – that's what happened," White said. "There's no other way it can be explained."
Rumors have circulated that Johnson was 1.5 pound away from his target of 186, but was grossly dehydrated and UFC doctors were forced to rehydrate him. Regardless, he was given the option of weighing in today with the direction that he was to weigh no more than 205. Johnson met that challenge and stepped onto the scale at 204.2. Seems as though a win tonight may not do much for the fighter.
"His job is on the line," White said. "His job is absolutely on the line, win or lose."
