Injuries have plagued the UFC in recent months, and they continue to mutilate fight cards into mere shadows of themselves. Sometimes the replacement bout turns into something magical, and sometimes it can completely ruin an event.
Thiago Alves has recently been pulled from his bout with Siyar Bahadurzada due to injury. The two strikers were likely to put on a fast paced, hitch octane back and forth that would have enthralled fans all over the world. But alas, with the injury, the fans will receive a much lesser known, Chris Clements as Alves' replacement. Though the bout may still blow us away, it is a lot less likely.
Thiago Silva is coming off of his suspension strong. He is ready to rock and roll and the UFC obliged. They handed him a bout with former LHW Champ, Shogun Rua. Once again we are looking at a striking bonanza that would dazzle the world. But once again, injury forces Silva to withdraw from the fight. Sources are saying the most likely replacement will be UFC newcomer, Glover Texeira.
Jon Fitch suffered a brutal 12 second KO at the hands of Johnny Hendricks, and he looked to rebound with a fantastic win of his own agianst Aaron Simpson. The two wrestlers would likely cancel one another out, as usual with two wrestlers, and end up having a stand up battle. But here we go again. Fitch is out due to injury. Replacement has yet to be announced, but it's not likely that it will be the biggest name. Nor will it make the match that Simpson vs Fitch would have made.
We cannot blame the UFC for these terrible injuries and fight replacements. After all, it happens. In fact we should take a little time each day and have a moment of silence for those who are most effected by this crazy rash of injuries. . . the fighters themselves, Dana White, and Joe Silva. Here's hoping that the next few months will go with only a fraction of the injuries of recent months. Maybe sometime soon we will actually get a fight card that was scheduled.
