With the recent news of the California State Athletic Commission's financial woes, it is no surprise that Executive Director, George Dodd, has resigned.
In a letter to the CSAC, Dodd states...
"I feel that it's time to move on to new opportunities and challenges that are not available to me here,"
Just this past month, the former Executive Director was censured for failing to sound off on a budget issue that left the commission nearly $35,000 in the negative following the 2011-2012 fiscal year. This is all according to the Los Angeles Times. It was also stated that the commission was on a direct path for closure if a restructuring was not underway soon.
Since commission's operating revenues come from live events, and big ticket events are on the decline in California, it's clear to see where a large issue is.
"The Department of Consumer Affairs will continue efforts to assist the California State Athletic Commission through their financial issues and help, as needed, in the search for a new Executive Officer," wrote Department of Consumer Affairs Director Denise Brown in a prepared statement. "We are optimistic that a solution can be reached and expect that scheduled events will proceed as planned."
