This weekend, the MMA action won't only be held at Aloha Tower, Kansas City will also feature a few of Hawaii's finest as they battle a couple of Brits. Shown via PPV format, Global Warrior Challenge is dubbing this event as "The Brittish Invasion".
The fight card is stacked with some of MMA's most notable names such as Oli Thompson, Kevin Asplund, L.C. Davis, Drew Fickett, Andre Winner, Bobby Lashley, Former UFC Heavyweight Champ Ricco Rodriguez, Jake Heun, and Kendall Grove. The U.S. vs U.K. format may prove to be a smashing success.
One thing is for certain, our local fighters are prepped and ready for battle. In Hawaii's representation, we have two major dynamics; the athlete and the scrapper. Jake Heun has successfully made the transition from Football to MMA, but the former UH Warrior is still looking to solidify his evolution from pure athlete, to pure fighter. He will get his chance tomorrow night. Having taken his talents to The Ultimate Fighter, and nearly earning a spot, Jake has taken his training to an all new level. He's been from Utah to Alaska, and from Australia to American Top Team in Florida. Jake has been evolving his game, fighting from Heavyweight to Middleweight and finding much success. Tomorrow night will hopefully prove to be exactly the win Jake needs to prove himself to the masses.
Kendall Grove has time and time again proven himself to be the Scrapper that Hawaii has been known to breed. His fight anybody anywhere mentality is not just a saying, it's his lifestyle. Taking fight after fight, no matter the opponent, Kendall has seen some of the best competition in the world. Though he has come up on the short end of a few decisions recently, he feels that the winning and losing doesn't really define his recent run, instead he believes that his recent evolution has been astronomical. He attributes much of his personal success to the people around him. He has decided to switch up his training and has been spending a lot of time here on O'ahu with multiple teams.
In the days leading up to tomorrows fight, Grove was spotted at 808 Fight Factory, 808 Top Team, and Gracie Technics. Opening his mind and his game to the best that Hawaii has to offer, Kendall has expanded an already top level game. His victory this weekend will hopefully send a message to the world, no matter who or when or where the fight, Kendall Grove comes to put on a show.
Good luck to our Hawaii fighters this weekend as they represent Hawaii and the United States in a pair of tough tussles. We are proud of you both no matter the outcome, but we are more than certain you will both raise your hand in victory.
