The local boys are making big noise on the mainland over the weekend. In the next few days we will see Kendall Grove, Jay Bolos, Micah Abreu, and Ryan Dela Cruz all competing. Oh and don't forget about KJ Noons in the UFC event on Saturday as well. Suffice to say, the islands will be well represented.
In his Bellator Debut, Kendall Grove is already making headlines and he has yet to even hit the Bellator Cage. In his much anticipated promotional debut, Kendall will be taking on Joe Vedepo (14-6). The Maui native, Grove, has made it very clear that this fight will not be the end of the road for him. He has stated that he will win this fight, and he will continue into the tournament. As of late Grove has strung together some quality wins peppered with a few losses, but all against top opponents. His most recent bout ended with Kendall's hand raised after TKOing his opponent in the very first round.
In a KOTC event that makes history, the fights aired live on MAV TV will serve as a voting cast for the viewers to decide who wins contracts with the promotion. There are several contracts up for grabs, and Hawaii has three hopefuls in the running. Local "Destiny MMA" promoter, Jay Bolos, Micah Abreu, and Ryan Dela Cruz will all be competing against mainland talent in their shot at the contracts.
Finally, at UFC 166, KJ Noons will be taking George Sotiropoulos. KJ is coming off of his loss to Cowboy Cerrone and looks to make quick work of Soti in what could be his first UFC win.
Good luck to all of the Hawaii representatives in their battles this weekend. As always, the entire MMA Hawaii community will be looking on with pride.
